If your domain is registered with Heart Internet, you can point it to Host Dada by changing its nameservers (the settings that tell the internet where your domain's website and email live) in the Heart Internet Customer Area. It takes about 10 minutes, then usually a few hours to take effect.
Before you start
- You'll need your Heart Internet Customer Area login, or the domain's own password for the Manage This Domain portal.
- Your domain must be registered with Heart Internet. If it's registered somewhere else, change the nameservers there instead.
- Set up your Host Dada hosting or email first, so there's somewhere for the domain to point. Not sure? See what nameservers do.
MS= or google-site-verification), CNAME and any other records, then recreate them in the Host Dada Control Panel. Our guide to managing DNS records shows you how. If your website is already on Host Dada hosting, its A records are added for you.Step-by-step (Customer Area)
- Log in to Heart Internet. Sign in to your Customer Area at heartinternet.uk.
- Open your domains. Select Manage Domain Names.
- Choose the domain. Pick the domain from the Manage Web Hosting Domains drop-down list and click Manage Now.
- Change the nameservers. Select Change Nameservers and replace the existing entries with the four Host Dada nameservers in the table below.
- Save. Confirm with Change Nameservers.
Another way: Manage This Domain
If you only have the domain's own password, go to managethisdomain.com, log in with the domain name (without www.) and its password, then select Change Nameservers.
Heart Internet has been moving customers between systems, so if your Customer Area looks different from these steps, look for your domain's Nameservers setting. Heart Internet's own instructions: How do I change the nameservers for my domain?
Host Dada nameservers
Enter all four, exactly as shown, one per box. If your registrar only shows two boxes, enter the first two and add the others if it lets you.
| Nameserver | Value |
|---|---|
| Nameserver 1 | ns1.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 2 | ns2.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 3 | ns3.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 4 | ns4.kandekore.net |
Prefer to keep your DNS at Heart Internet? Change the A record instead
If your email or other services are set up at Heart Internet and you'd rather not move them, leave the nameservers as they are and point just your website at Host Dada. Use 45.8.224.98 for ProFlex hosting. For Essential or WordPress hosting, every package has its own address: copy the A record value from Manage DNS in the Host Dada Control Panel.
- In the Domain Control Panel, open DNS Management.
- Change the top A record (blank subdomain, the root of your domain) to your Host Dada IP address, and do the same for
www. - Remove every AAAA record, then select Update DNS.
- Leave your MX and TXT records alone, so your email keeps working.
You can't have a CNAME and an A record with the same name, so if www is a CNAME to another service, remove it before adding the A record. Heart Internet's guide: Heart Internet: Modify an A record. For the full explanation, including why the AAAA records must go, see Point your domain to Host Dada with an A record.
How long it takes and how to check
Heart Internet usually sends the change to the domain registry within minutes. Most of the internet sees the new nameservers within a few hours, but it can take up to 24 to 48 hours because other networks keep a cached copy of the old ones. During that time some visitors may see the old site and some the new, so keep your old hosting and email running until it has finished.
To check progress:
- Use a free public checker such as whatsmydns.net. Choose NS, enter your domain and look for
ns1.kandekore.nettons4.kandekore.netaround the world. - On a Mac or Linux computer, run
dig NS yourdomain.co.uk +shortin Terminal. On Windows, runnslookup -type=NS yourdomain.co.uk.
Our guide to DNS propagation explains what's happening in more detail.
Heart Internet says the update usually shows within 3 to 6 hours, but can take up to 72 hours to be visible everywhere.
Troubleshooting
The domain isn't in the Manage Web Hosting Domains list
It may be registered on a different Heart Internet account, or through a reseller who uses Heart Internet. Try the Manage This Domain portal, or ask whoever registered the domain to change the nameservers.
My email stopped arriving after the change
The MX records weren't recreated on Host Dada DNS before the switch. Add them in the Host Dada Control Panel now (see Manage DNS records). Mail usually starts flowing again within an hour. Senders' servers retry for a day or more, so most delayed messages still arrive.
The checker still shows the old nameservers
Give it time: up to 24 to 48 hours is normal. If nothing has changed after 48 hours, log back in and check the nameservers saved correctly, with no typing mistakes or full stops at the end.
