Point a domain registered at Bluehost to Host Dada by replacing Bluehost's nameservers with ns1 to ns4.kandekore.net, or keep your DNS at Bluehost and just change the A record. Either takes about ten minutes in the Bluehost portal.
Before you start
- Your domain should already be added to your Host Dada hosting package, so a DNS zone is waiting for it. See Add a website or domain to your hosting package.
- If you're moving a website, upload it first and check it works before you switch. Preview your site before changing DNS shows you how.
- You'll need to sign in to your Bluehost account at my.bluehost.com.
- The domain must be active and not expired.
Host Dada nameservers
Enter them exactly as shown. Don't add a full stop at the end, and don't enter any IP addresses. If Bluehost only shows two boxes, enter the first two: that's enough for your domain to work.
| Nameserver | Value |
|---|---|
| Nameserver 1 | ns1.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 2 | ns2.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 3 | ns3.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 4 | ns4.kandekore.net |
Step-by-step: change your nameservers at Bluehost
- Sign in to Bluehost and choose Domains in the left-hand menu.
- Select the domain you want to move.
- Open the Nameservers tab and select Change Nameservers.
- Replace
ns1.bluehost.comandns2.bluehost.comwithns1.kandekore.netandns2.kandekore.net. If there are more boxes (or an option to add another), enterns3.kandekore.netandns4.kandekore.nettoo. - Select Save.
Bluehost's own guide is Nameservers tab. Ignore the Custom Nameservers section with hostname and IP boxes: that's for creating your own branded nameservers on a Bluehost server, not for pointing your domain elsewhere.
Prefer to keep your DNS at Bluehost? Change the A record instead
If your email or other services are set up at Bluehost and you'd rather not move them, leave the nameservers as they are and point just your website at Host Dada. Use 45.8.224.98 for ProFlex hosting. For Essential or WordPress hosting, every package has its own address: copy the A record value from Manage DNS in the Host Dada Control Panel.
- In the Bluehost portal, go to Domains, select the domain and open the DNS tab.
- Find the A record for
@(the root of your domain), open its menu (⋮), choose Edit, enter your Host Dada IP address and save. Do the same forwwwif it's an A record. - Delete every AAAA record for
@andwww: open its menu (⋮), choose Delete and confirm. - Leave your MX and TXT records alone, so your email keeps working.
Bluehost says record changes usually take effect within minutes, and up to 8 hours. Its guide: Guide to the DNS tab. For the full explanation, including why the AAAA records must go, see Point your domain to Host Dada with an A record.
How long does it take?
Bluehost passes the change to the domain registry, and the rest of the internet then catches up as old answers expire from caches. Most visitors see the new nameservers within a few hours, but Bluehost says to allow 24 to 48 hours for everyone. During that window some people may see your old site and some the new one, so leave your old hosting and email running until the change has completed.
Check the change has worked
- Use a free public DNS checker (search for "DNS propagation checker"), choose the NS record type and enter your domain. When most locations show the
kandekore.netnameservers, you're done. - On a Mac or Linux computer you can run
dig NS yourdomain.co.uk +shortin Terminal. On Windows, runnslookup -type=ns yourdomain.co.ukin Command Prompt. - Send a test email to your domain from a personal address to confirm mail still arrives.
More detail is in How long do DNS changes take? Checking propagation.
Troubleshooting
I can't find the Nameservers tab
Bluehost has moved some accounts to its newer portal. Look for Domains in the left-hand menu and select the domain: the tabs (Overview, DNS, Nameservers) appear across the top. If the domain is registered elsewhere and only hosted at Bluehost, change the nameservers at your registrar instead.
"Nameserver is not valid" or the save button stays grey
Check there are no spaces before or after each nameserver, and that you haven't typed http:// or a trailing full stop.
My website still shows the old Bluehost site
Your browser or network may still be using the old answer. Wait a few hours, clear your browser cache or try mobile data. If a DNS checker still shows bluehost.com nameservers after 48 hours, the change didn't save, so repeat the steps.
My email stopped working after the change
The MX records weren't recreated on Host Dada before the switch. Add them now in the Host Dada Control Panel under Domains, copying the values from your old provider (or from your email provider's setup guide). Mail that bounced can't be recovered, but new messages will arrive once the record has spread, usually within an hour.
