If your domain is registered with Hover, you can point it to Host Dada by changing its nameservers (the settings that tell the internet where your domain's website and email live) in the Hover control panel. It takes about 5 minutes, then usually a few hours to take effect.
Before you start
- You'll need your Hover login, plus your two-step verification code or app.
- Your domain must be registered with Hover. If it's registered somewhere else, change the nameservers there instead.
- Set up your Host Dada hosting or email first, so there's somewhere for the domain to point. Not sure? See what nameservers do.
MS= or google-site-verification), CNAME and any other records, then recreate them in the Host Dada Control Panel. Our guide to managing DNS records shows you how. If your website is already on Host Dada hosting, its A records are added for you.Step-by-step (one domain)
- Log in to Hover. Sign in to the Hover control panel at hover.com and complete two-step verification.
- Open the domain. Click the domain to open its Overview page.
- Edit the nameservers. On the left of the Overview page, find Nameservers and select Edit.
- Enter the Host Dada nameservers. In the pop-up, replace the existing entries with the four Host Dada nameservers in the table below.
- Save. Click Save nameservers.
Changing several domains at once
Click Nameservers in the top navigation bar, tick each domain you want to change, then open the Bulk edit: select menu and choose Edit nameservers. Enter the Host Dada nameservers and save.
Host Dada nameservers
Enter all four, exactly as shown, one per box. If your registrar only shows two boxes, enter the first two and add the others if it lets you.
| Nameserver | Value |
|---|---|
| Nameserver 1 | ns1.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 2 | ns2.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 3 | ns3.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 4 | ns4.kandekore.net |
Hover's own instructions: Changing nameservers at Hover. Hover notes that every domain needs at least two nameservers, all from the same provider, so don't mix Hover's and Host Dada's.
Prefer to keep your DNS at Hover? Change the A record instead
If your email or other services are set up at Hover and you'd rather not move them, leave the nameservers as they are and point just your website at Host Dada. Use 45.8.224.98 for ProFlex hosting. For Essential or WordPress hosting, every package has its own address: copy the A record value from Manage DNS in the Host Dada Control Panel.
- In the Hover control panel, open the domain and go to its DNS section.
- Edit the A record for
@so it points to your Host Dada IP address. Change the*(wildcard) andwwwrecords too, or delete them and add awwwA record with the same address. - Delete every AAAA record: tick it, open Bulk edit and choose Delete.
- Leave your MX and TXT records alone, so your email keeps working.
This only works while the domain uses Hover's nameservers. Hover's guide: Hover: Managing DNS records. For the full explanation, including why the AAAA records must go, see Point your domain to Host Dada with an A record.
How long it takes and how to check
Hover usually sends the change to the domain registry within minutes. Most of the internet sees the new nameservers within a few hours, but it can take up to 24 to 48 hours because other networks keep a cached copy of the old ones. During that time some visitors may see the old site and some the new, so keep your old hosting and email running until it has finished.
To check progress:
- Use a free public checker such as whatsmydns.net. Choose NS, enter your domain and look for
ns1.kandekore.nettons4.kandekore.netaround the world. - On a Mac or Linux computer, run
dig NS yourdomain.co.uk +shortin Terminal. On Windows, runnslookup -type=NS yourdomain.co.uk.
Our guide to DNS propagation explains what's happening in more detail.
Troubleshooting
My Hover forwarding or email stopped working
That's expected once the domain leaves Hover's nameservers. Recreate the forward on Host Dada (see Forward a domain), or move your mailboxes to Host Dada Email.
My email stopped arriving after the change
The MX records weren't recreated on Host Dada DNS before the switch. Add them in the Host Dada Control Panel now (see Manage DNS records). Mail usually starts flowing again within an hour. Senders' servers retry for a day or more, so most delayed messages still arrive.
The checker still shows the old nameservers
Give it time: up to 24 to 48 hours is normal. If nothing has changed after 48 hours, log back in and check the nameservers saved correctly, with no typing mistakes or full stops at the end.
