To move a domain from 123-reg to Host Dada, unlock it in the 123 Reg Control Panel, then choose Transfer to Another Registrar to see the authorisation code. For a .co.uk or .uk domain, the same option lets you enter Host Dada's IPS tag, HOSTDADA.

  • Applies to: Domains registered with 123-reg (.com, .co.uk and others)
  • Time: about 10 minutes, then usually same day for .uk and up to 7 days for .com-type domains
  • Difficulty: Beginner

Before you start

  • 60-day rule: a .com-type domain can't move within 60 days of being registered or transferred. 123-reg also won't release a domain in the last 7 days before it expires.
  • Domain Protection: if it's switched on, 123-reg asks you to confirm your identity with a code from your phone or authenticator app (2-step verification must have been on for at least 24 hours), or a one-time password sent to your account email.
  • Your 123 Reg login and access to the domain's admin email address.
Keep your email workingTransferring the registration doesn't change your DNS by itself, but if 123-reg also hosts your DNS it may stop once the domain leaves. Write down your current MX, SPF (TXT) and website records first, and point the domain to the Host Dada nameservers (or another DNS host) before you transfer. See What are nameservers?

.com, .net, .org and other domains: unlock and get the code

  1. Log in to the 123 Reg Control Panel.
  2. Click Manage All next to Domains under All Products and Services.
  3. Unlock the domain. Tick the box next to the domain, click Lock (it may be under More), choose Turn Lock Off and click Continue.
  4. Open the transfer option. Select the domain and choose Transfer to Another Registrar. Complete the Domain Protection check if asked.
  5. Copy the authorisation code shown on screen. 123-reg also emails it to the domain's admin contact.

.uk domains: change the IPS tag to HOSTDADA

.uk domains (.co.uk, .uk, .org.uk, .me.uk and others) don't use authorisation codes. Instead, 123-reg changes the domain's IPS tag to Host Dada's tag, HOSTDADA, and the domain moves across. Order the transfer at Host Dada first (see below) so we can match it to your account.

  1. Unlock the domain first, as in step 3 above.
  2. Select the domain under Manage All and choose Transfer to Another Registrar.
  3. Enter the IPS tag HOSTDADA and click Complete Transfer. Complete the Domain Protection check if asked.
123-reg removes DNS after 48 hoursOnce a .uk domain leaves, 123-reg removes its DNS and forwarding services within 48 hours and the domain disappears from your control panel. Make sure the domain is on the Host Dada nameservers (or your new DNS host) before you change the tag.

123-reg's guide: Transferring a .uk domain away from 123 Reg.

.uk transfers change on 9 February 2027Nominet is replacing IPS tag changes with transfer codes for .uk domains from 9 February 2027. Until then, the tag method on this page is correct. After that date you'll request a code for .uk domains too, and we'll update this guide.

Complete the transfer to Host Dada

  1. Order the transfer. Go to Transfer in a Domain (or Domains → Transfer in a Domain in the Client Area), enter your domain under Domain Name and click Order Now. The Host Dada Transfer Domain form with a domain entered and the Order Now button highlighted Start the transfer in the Host Dada Client Area.
  2. Paste the authorisation code into the Authorization Code box when asked. Codes are case-sensitive, so copy and paste rather than typing. (.uk domains don't ask for a code.)
  3. Check the nameservers and check out. If checkout shows nameserver boxes, they're filled in with the Host Dada nameservers. Keep them if your website and email are with us, or enter your current nameservers if they're staying elsewhere for now. For most .com-type domains, the transfer adds a year to the registration.
  4. Approve and wait. 123-reg may email the domain owner to confirm. Approving it speeds things up. Otherwise .com-type transfers can take up to 7 days. For a .uk domain, change the IPS tag as described above and it usually arrives within a few hours.
  5. Check everything once it arrives. The domain appears under Domains → My Domains. Check auto-renew is on and the Contact Information is correct.

Troubleshooting

I can't get past the Domain Protection check

If 2-step verification was switched on less than 24 hours ago, wait and try again, or use the one-time password option sent to your account email. 123-reg support can help if you've lost access to your phone.

123-reg says the domain can't be transferred

It's probably under 60 days old, within 7 days of expiry, or still locked. Renew it first if it's close to expiry, and check the lock is off.

I was a TSOHost customer

TSOHost accounts now use the 123 Reg Control Panel, so these steps apply to you too. See Transfer a domain from TSOHost.
