Nameservers tell the internet which company holds the DNS records for your domain. To use Host Dada hosting or email with a domain, set its nameservers to the four Host Dada nameservers below at whichever company the domain is registered with.

  • Applies to: All Host Dada hosting and email plans
  • Time: about 10 minutes, plus up to 24 hours to take effect
  • Difficulty: Beginner

Host Dada nameservers

Enter all four, exactly as shown, in this order:

NameserverValue
Nameserver 1ns1.kandekore.net
Nameserver 2ns2.kandekore.net
Nameserver 3ns3.kandekore.net
Nameserver 4ns4.kandekore.net

If your registrar only gives you two boxes, enter the first two and add the others if it offers an Add nameserver option. Remove any old nameservers so only the Host Dada ones are listed.

What nameservers actually do

Every domain has DNS records (the internet's address book entries) that say where its website lives and which server handles its email. Nameservers are the servers that hold those records. When you point your domain to the Host Dada nameservers, Host Dada answers for it, and the records we create when you add the domain to your hosting make your website and email work.

Your registrar (the company you pay each year for the domain) and your DNS host (where the nameservers point) don't have to be the same company. You can keep a domain registered elsewhere and still point it to Host Dada. To bring the registration over too, see Transfer a domain to Host Dada.

Before you start

  • Add the domain to your Host Dada hosting first, so the DNS records are ready when the nameservers switch. See Add a website or domain to your hosting package.
  • Find out where the domain is registered. Your renewal invoices will tell you, or look the domain up on a WHOIS service such as ICANN Lookup (it works for .uk domains too).
  • Make a note of your current email (MX) records if your email is hosted somewhere you're keeping. See the warning below.
Keep your email workingChanging nameservers replaces all of your domain's DNS records with the ones held at Host Dada. If your email is with another provider (for example Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace), copy the existing MX, SPF (TXT) and autodiscover records first and add them in Host Dada DNS before you switch. See Manage DNS records.

Step-by-step

  1. Log in to your registrar's account. If the domain is registered with Host Dada, follow Change nameservers for a domain registered with Host Dada instead.
  2. Find the nameserver setting. It's usually under the domain's management page, labelled Nameservers, DNS or Name servers. Choose the option to use custom (or "your own") nameservers.
  3. Enter the four Host Dada nameservers from the table above and remove any others.
  4. Save. Most registrars show a confirmation straight away. The change then spreads across the internet, usually within a few hours and occasionally up to 24 to 48 hours. See How long do DNS changes take?

Step-by-step guides for popular registrars

Registrar not listed (for example Name.com, Dynadot or a LogicBoxes-based reseller)? The steps are almost always the same: open the domain, find Nameservers, choose custom nameservers, enter the four values and save.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid nameserver" or "nameserver not registered"

Check for typing mistakes, spaces or a full stop at the end. Type each one in lowercase exactly as shown, for example ns1.kandekore.net.

My website still shows the old site

The change hasn't reached your network yet, or your browser has the old site cached. Try a private browsing window or your phone on mobile data, and check progress with our propagation guide.

I can't change nameservers at my registrar

Some registrars lock nameservers while a website builder or "domain connect" service is active, and Cloudflare Registrar doesn't allow nameserver changes at all. Disconnect the builder first, or transfer the domain to Host Dada.
