Point a domain registered at IONOS (formerly 1&1) to Host Dada by switching it to custom name servers: ns1 to ns4.kandekore.net. It takes a few minutes in the IONOS Domains & SSL area.
Before you start
- Your domain should already be added to your Host Dada hosting package, so a DNS zone is waiting for it. See Add a website or domain to your hosting package.
- If you're moving a website, upload it first and check it works before you switch. Preview your site before changing DNS shows you how.
- You'll need to sign in to your IONOS account.
- The domain must be active and not expired.
Host Dada nameservers
Enter all four, one per box, exactly as shown. Don't add a full stop at the end, and don't enter any IP addresses.
| Nameserver | Value |
|---|---|
| Nameserver 1 | ns1.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 2 | ns2.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 3 | ns3.kandekore.net |
| Nameserver 4 | ns4.kandekore.net |
Step-by-step: change your nameservers at IONOS
- Sign in to your IONOS account and open Domains & SSL.
- Find the domain in the list. Under Actions, select the gear icon, then choose Name Server.
- Select Use Custom Name Servers.
- Enter
ns1.kandekore.netas Name Server 1 andns2.kandekore.netas Name Server 2. Fill inns3.kandekore.netandns4.kandekore.netin the optional third and fourth boxes. IONOS doesn't require them, but using all four gives you the best reliability. - Select Save. IONOS shows a confirmation that the change has been accepted.
yourbusiness.co.uk, not for a subdomain. Once custom name servers are active, any DNS records you still see in IONOS are ignored, so make your DNS changes at Host Dada from now on.IONOS's own guide is Using your own name servers for a domain.
How long does it take?
IONOS usually passes the change to the domain registry within minutes. The rest of the internet then catches up as old answers expire from caches. Most visitors see the new nameservers within a few hours, but allow up to 24 to 48 hours for everyone. During that window some people may see your old site and some the new one, so leave your old hosting and email running until the change has completed.
Check the change has worked
- Use a free public DNS checker (search for "DNS propagation checker"), choose the NS record type and enter your domain. When most locations show the
kandekore.netnameservers, you're done. - On a Mac or Linux computer you can run
dig NS yourdomain.co.uk +shortin Terminal. On Windows, runnslookup -type=ns yourdomain.co.ukin Command Prompt. - Send a test email to your domain from a personal address to confirm mail still arrives.
More detail is in How long do DNS changes take? Checking propagation.
Troubleshooting
IONOS shows an error when I save
Copy and paste can bring in a hidden space or tab. Clear each box and type the nameservers again by hand.
I changed my mind and want to go back
On the same Name Server page, use Reset Settings to restore the IONOS name servers. Allow up to 48 hours again.
My IONOS website builder site disappeared
That's expected: the domain no longer points at IONOS. IONOS website builder sites can't be exported, so rebuild the site on Host Dada before you switch. See Migrate your website from IONOS.
My email stopped working after the change
The MX records weren't recreated on Host Dada before the switch. Add them now in the Host Dada Control Panel under Domains, copying the values from your old provider (or from your email provider's setup guide). Mail that bounced can't be recovered, but new messages will arrive once the record has spread, usually within an hour.
