To move a domain from Names.co.uk (Namesco) to Host Dada, use the Domain Transfers section of the Namesco control panel. For .com-type domains Namesco unlocks the domain and emails the authorisation code. For .co.uk and .uk domains you change the Nominet TAG to HOSTDADA. Namesco charges a fee for both.
Before you start
- Namesco's fee: Names.co.uk charges an administration fee of £10 + VAT to transfer a domain away. You pay it in the control panel at the end of the process.
- 60-day rule: a .com-type domain can't move within 60 days of being registered or transferred.
- An email address you can receive at: Namesco sends the authorisation code to the address you enter during the process.
.com, .net, .org and other domains: get the authorisation code
- Log in to the Namesco Online Control Panel.
- Open the domain. Go to Services → Dashboard and select the domain.
- Scroll down to Domain Transfers and choose the option to transfer your domain away from Namesco.
- Enter the email address the authorisation code should go to and click Proceed.
- Pay the fee. Once payment is confirmed, Namesco unlocks the domain and emails you the authorisation code.

.uk domains: change the IPS tag to HOSTDADA
.uk domains (.co.uk, .uk, .org.uk, .me.uk and others) don't use authorisation codes. Instead, Names.co.uk changes the domain's IPS tag to Host Dada's tag, HOSTDADA, and the domain moves across. Order the transfer at Host Dada first (see below) so we can match it to your account.
- Open the domain in the Online Control Panel and scroll to Domain Transfers.
- Choose the option to change the Nominet TAG.
- Enter
HOSTDADAas the New Nominet Tag, add a reason for the transfer and click Proceed. - Pay the fee. Namesco then releases the domain to Host Dada.

Complete the transfer to Host Dada
-
Order the transfer. Go to Transfer in a Domain (or Domains → Transfer in a Domain in the Client Area), enter your domain under Domain Name and click Order Now.
Start the transfer in the Host Dada Client Area.
- Paste the authorisation code into the Authorization Code box when asked. Codes are case-sensitive, so copy and paste rather than typing. (.uk domains don't ask for a code.)
- Check the nameservers and check out. If checkout shows nameserver boxes, they're filled in with the Host Dada nameservers. Keep them if your website and email are with us, or enter your current nameservers if they're staying elsewhere for now. For most .com-type domains, the transfer adds a year to the registration.
- Approve and wait. For .com-type domains you may get an approval email. Approving it speeds things up. Otherwise the transfer usually completes within 5 to 7 days. For a .uk domain, change the IPS tag as described above and it usually arrives within a few hours.
- Check everything once it arrives. The domain appears under Domains → My Domains. Check auto-renew is on and the Contact Information is correct.

Troubleshooting
I've paid but haven't received the code
Check the spam folder of the email address you entered. Namesco processes requests after payment, so allow up to 48 hours before contacting them.
Can I avoid the Namesco fee?
For a .uk domain, the registered owner can change the tag through Nominet's own online services instead. Nominet charges £10 + VAT for that, so it rarely saves money. See Changing the IPS tag.
My Namesco email stopped working after the move
Namesco DNS may stop once the domain leaves. Make sure your email records are set up at Host Dada (or your new DNS host) and the nameservers are changed.
