See how much of your ProFlex storage you're using, track down the folders and files taking up the most space, and set up a warning email before you run out. A full account can stop uploads, backups and even your website from working, so it's worth checking now and then.

  • Applies to: ProFlex Hosting (cPanel)
  • Time: about 5 minutes
  • Difficulty: Beginner

Before you start

  • Log in to cPanel from the Client Area: Services → your ProFlex service → Log in to cPanel.
  • Storage by plan: ProFlex Web 5 GB, ProFlex Business 12 GB, ProFlex Business Plus 20 GB. Databases count towards the same total.

Quick check

cPanel's home page shows Disk Usage, Database Disk Usage and Bandwidth under Statistics on the right. The Client Area also shows disk and bandwidth gauges on your ProFlex service page.

Find what's using space

  1. Open Disk Usage in the Files section.
  2. Read the summary table. It lists your main folders, plus Databases, with their size and a bar showing which is largest. The total and your quota are at the bottom. The cPanel Disk Usage page listing folders and databases with sizes and usage bars cPanel's Disk Usage tool.
  3. Drill down. Further down the page, choose Sort directories by: Disk Usage and click the arrows next to the largest folders to see what's inside them.
  4. Find individual large files in File Manager. Open the folder and click the Size column heading to sort by size.

Common space hogs and what to do

WhereWhat it isSafe to remove?
Files named backup-*.tar.gz in your home folderFull backups you generated in cPanelYes, once downloaded to your computer
.trash (hidden)Files deleted in File ManagerYes: File Manager → View Trash → Empty Trash
public_html/wp-content/uploadsWordPress media libraryDelete unused images in WordPress (Media), not by hand
Backup plugin folders, e.g. wp-content/updraft or ai1wm-backupsBackups made by a WordPress plugin, stored on the same hostingYes, after downloading. Set the plugin to store backups off-site instead
public_html/wp-content/cache and lscacheCached pagesPurge from the caching plugin rather than deleting files
logs and error_log filesWebsite logsLarge error_log files can be deleted, but fix the errors filling them too
DatabasesShown in the Disk Usage tableClean up old revisions and spam with a database tool; see MySQL databases

Get an email before you run out

  1. Open Contact Information in the Preferences section.
  2. Check the Email address is one you read. ProFlex has no cPanel mailboxes, so use your Microsoft 365, Host Dada Email or other address.
  3. Turn on My account approaches its disk quota under Contact Preferences (and My account approaches its bandwidth usage limit if you like), then click Save.

Bandwidth

The Bandwidth tool in the Metrics section shows how much data your site has served each month, with a breakdown by service. It's useful for spotting a sudden spike, which often means a bot or hotlinked images. See Hotlink Protection.

Troubleshooting

"Disk quota exceeded" or uploads fail

Your account is full. Remove old backups and empty the trash first. These usually free the most space quickly. If you've genuinely outgrown your plan, upgrade from Upgrade/Downgrade in the Client Area.

Disk Usage and File Manager show different numbers

Disk Usage is updated periodically and counts space used on disk, which is often slightly more than the files' actual sizes. Give it a few minutes after deleting files.

I deleted files but the space hasn't come back

Files deleted in File Manager go to the trash, and still count until you click Empty Trash.
