Renew your domain early from the Client Area, or leave auto-renew switched on so it renews automatically before it expires. A domain that expires stops your website and email working, so it's worth two minutes to check.

  • Applies to: Domain names registered with Host Dada
  • Time: about 3 minutes
  • Difficulty: Beginner

Before you start

Renew a domain now

  1. Log in to the Client Area and click Domains in the top menu.
  2. Click Renew Domains. It's in the Actions menu on the left. The Actions menu on the My Domains page with Renew Domains highlighted Renew Domains is in the Actions menu on the My Domains page.
  3. Choose the domain and the period. The Domain Renewals page lists every domain that can be renewed. Pick how many years to add and add it to your cart.
  4. Check out and pay. The new expiry date shows on the domain's overview page once the renewal has been processed by the registry, usually within a few minutes.
Can't see your domain? The renewal list only shows domains that are eligible right now. If a domain is missing, it may be expired beyond its grace period, on a different account, or registered elsewhere. Open a ticket and we'll check.

Turn auto-renew on or off

  1. Open the domain. In the Client Area, click Domains, then click the domain name in your list.
  2. Click Auto Renew in the Manage menu. The page shows the current Auto Renewal Status.
  3. Click Enable Auto Renew (or Disable Auto Renew). With auto-renew on, we raise the renewal invoice ahead of the expiry date and take payment from your saved card.
TipAuto-renew is on by default for new domains. Leave it on for any domain your website or email uses. Only turn it off for a domain you've decided to let go.

Renewal reminders

WhenWhat happens
30 days before expiryFirst renewal reminder email
7 days before expirySecond reminder
Expiry dateThe domain expires if it hasn't been renewed. Website and email can stop working
3 days after expiryExpired notice. Renew straight away

Reminders go to the email address on your Client Area account, so keep it up to date under your account details.

Don't leave it too lateOnce a domain expires, the registry starts a recovery period. For a while you can usually still renew, sometimes with an extra redemption fee, but after that the name is released and anyone can register it. If your domain has expired, open a ticket straight away.

Troubleshooting

Auto-renew is on but the domain still expired

Usually the renewal invoice couldn't be paid, for example because a card expired. Check Billing → My Invoices for an unpaid invoice, pay it and the renewal will go through.

My website and email stopped working suddenly

Check the expiry date on the domain's overview page. If it's in the past, renew it. Services usually come back within an hour or two once the registry processes the renewal.

The domain isn't in my Client Area at all

It may be registered with another company. Check who your registrar is with a WHOIS lookup, or see Transfer a domain to Host Dada to bring it under one roof.

Still stuck? Our UK support team is happy to help. Open a support ticket and tell us the domain name and its expiry date.
